More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
Bpeace aims to address the poverty and ongoing violence in Afghanistan. Results of research conducted in Habibas neighborhood on the outskirts of Kabul showed an unmet demand for a safe and educational environment for preschool aged children. In addition to a safe learning environment for 150 children, the school also provides jobs in the community, and promotes economic prosperity to the immediate and extended families of the children who attend by allowing parents to work.
Activities
When Habiba opens her school, she will create jobs, provide a safe place for preschool children to learn, play and flourish, and give parents the opportunity to work, strengthen the local economy, and ultimately promote prosperity, leading to peace.

Why this Project is Important
Potential Long Term Impact
The school will serve 150 preschool children per year, giving them the chance to learn and flourish and giving parents the opportunity to work and prosper. Increased access to education and economic prosperity will lead to a more peaceful community.
Project Message
"Habiba creates a haven in a country that still sees children playing in gutters, because there is no where else, and at the same time she promotes early learning to fight the 80% illiteracy rate.
- Toni Maloney, Bpeace Volunteer Board Member

The School is Open!
By Marla Gitterman - Bpeace Program Director, April 14, 2008 06:15 PM
Construction of Habiba's day care center has completely finished and on March 20, 2008 the center opened its doors to 8 children with 2 teachers.
As of April 9th, there are 40 children enrolled and Habiba reports, "The time starts from 8:00am to 4:00pm and the students are coming with a very good wishes and happiness, and their parents are very happy that they sent their children to care center and they [want to] make a good future for their children.
Lunch and snacks are prepared daily and right now there are two teachers, one cleaner, one cook and two guards.
A grand opening is planned for this summer, once there are more children enrolled and the weather is nicer. Habiba remains grateful to Bpeace, globalgiving.com and all of her donors and supporters! Attachments:
