MADRE and LIMPAL have designed multifaceted programs that meet the needs of displaced women and children, providing access to food, education, water, and housing. These programs serve approximately 30 families every day. ActivitiesServices include: 1. Provide meals through a community food bank; 2. Promote school attendance for 50 children by buying books and uniforms; and 3. Improve housing and provide clean drinking water in neighborhoods where displaced families live. Latest Update from the FieldNine families fed for one month thanks to your donationsBy Vivian Stromberg - Executive Director, MADRE, January 25, 2008 03:19 PM Since MADRE brought this project to the Global Giving community in October of 2007, $280 has been raised to bring basic necessities to displaced women in Cartagena and Bogota. This money has been placed into a food bank run by LIMPAL, the Liga Internacional de Mujeres por la Paz y la Libertad, or the Women’s International League for Peace and Liberty. Over 500 women and their families rely on this food bank; thanks to your donations so far, nine families have each received a month’s worth of food. MADRE sends thanks to everyone at Global Giving for helping get this project up and running. Every dollar means so much to people who lack access to resources many of us take for granted. With more funding, MADRE hopes to be able to provide school supplies, uniforms, clean water, and housing solutions to women and families served by LIMPAL. Comment on this update
