More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Historically at-risk and traditionally underserved, girls of African descent are disproportionately affected by poverty, teen pregnancy, school dropout, HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s). Due to demand, Sisterhood Agenda and partner organizations implement A Journey Toward Womanhood on-site at different locations and provide much-needed training and educational resources such as curriculum guides, student manuals, program protocols, books, knowledge cards, and journals.

Activities

Using a hands-on, multi-media approach rooted in the African “rites of passage” tradition, Sisterhood Agenda uses a modern approach to instilling knowledge, cultural roots and community awareness by using mentoring, peer influence and collabation.

Progress Report

By Angela D. Coleman - President, March 31, 2008 09:15 PM

Sisterhood Agenda (www.sisterhoodagenda.com) was recently voted as the 2008 Black Web Award Winner in the category Best Site for Sistahs, beating essence.com and other nominated sites.

Sisterhood Agenda’s Sisterhood Empowerment project is progressing quickly with over 60 new Global Partners added since the new year began including partners in Canada, Uganda, Nigeria, Jamaica and throughout the United States. This brings the total number of Sisterhood Agenda Global Partners close to 1,000.

New sites for A Journey Toward Womanhood implementation include geographical areas in California, Florida, New Jersey, Ghana, and Nigeria. Several grant applications have been submitted and individual donations have been received, along with grant support from YouTube. A comprehensive public relations campaign will be implemented spring 2008 to further publicize Sisterhood Agenda’s global project and positive media component.

Sisterhood Agenda has also significantly increased collaboration with wholesale distributors, retailers and beauty salons to offer Sisterhood Agenda publications to their customers and clients in national, localized and global markets.
