Mission

Geledes is an African-descendent women's organization whose institutional mission is to fight racism and sexism, value and promote African-descendent women in particular, and the African-descendent community in general. Aim to increase the visibility of the racial problem in Brazil and to make the gov. and civil society more sensitive to the discussion of the growing exclusion process faced by the poor and discrminated populations, consituted mainly by African-descendents.

Programs

(1)SOS Racism: offers free of charge legal assist. for victims of racial discrim. (2)Legal Studies Center: develops studies about racial inequality (3)Popular Legal Counselors: provides female community leaders (4)Educ. & Political Develop. Center: promotes development courses for formal or alt. educators (5)Generation XXI Project: Affirmative action that will assure the school life of a 21 black adolescents (6)Health educ. for black women and & youngsters (7)Media activities: gender & race
