More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
21 years of war decimated the landscape of South Sudan. In 2005, as Southerners returned to their villages to rebuild, they found that their homes were burned or degraded from decades of weathering and neglect. Without shelter, life in South Sudan is daily and seasonal survival against the onslaught of 6 months of heavy rains and intense sun. Without shelter families cannot safely rest or sustain systems such as food storage, livestock care, water storage, and a focal point for family structure.
Activities
RI initiated a shelter project in Maban County with the distribution of temporary shelter kits. With the help of the communities it is helping, RI is now rebuilding permanent homes for retuning families.

The impact each home built will ripple across the community of Maban rapidly and foster an atmosphere of protection and stability that can lead to a stronger foundation from which families can reconstruct their lives and livelihoods in peacetime.
Project Message
Without shelter, life in South Sudan is daily survival against the onslaught of a 6- month rainy season. Without shelter, families cannot safely rest or sustain systems such as food and water storage.
