More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

The solar-powered classroom is targeting low levels of computer literacy among students and teachers due to lack of access to technology. The nearest computer and technology center is in Bharatpur, a city on the other side of the Rewa River with no connecting bridges. VolNepal is working with Janakalyan Secondary School at Madi and Chitwan to create the classroom. Solar power is needed as there is no electricity in the area. There are 580 students total, with only about 14 teachers.

Activities

A trainer will train teachers and senior students on computer technology, who in turn will educate jr. students, newcomers and community members. The project will also repair and maintain the 8 solar-powered computers in the Center.

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

A trainer will train teachers and senior students on computer technology, who in turn will educate jr. students, newcomers & others. Will maintain computers to provide long term and much needed access to communication & information related technology

Project Message

The Rewa River separates students and teachers in Madi from Bharatar, the nearest city with access to computers. There are no bridges connecting the two areas, leaving Madi students isolated.
