More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

People with spinal cord injuries are marginalized and are often overlooked by mainstream development interventions. This makes them some of the most deprived and vulnerable people in low-income countries. KASI works in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania to educate people with spinal cord injuries about health issues, to address poverty through skills training and income generating activities, and to advocate for basic rights and equal opportunities.

Activities

By providing training, education, mobility aids and a supportive community, the quality of life for the disabled population of Kilimanjaro is greatly improved. With your support we can grow to serve the greater disabled population of Tanzania.

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

KASI’s current programs benefit over 1000 people. Creating a dedicated center will allow KASI to expand its outreach across the country, while continuing to provide essential training and support to the neglected disabled population of Tanzania.

Project Message

"I have learnt to be independent again. I live alone and make my own decisions. I am a useful person in the village because I repair umbrellas, clocks, and other things."
- Peter, KASI Member, wheelchair user since 2000
