Mission
Engineers for Community Service (ECOS), a student organization at The Ohio State University, promotes life-long professionalism via educational experiences in the uses of engineering skills for local and international community service projects. We value both extra-curricular volunteerism and curricular approaches such as service-learning and recognize some fundamental philosophical tension between these approaches.
Programs
Montana de Luz, Honduras Service-Learning Project:
A group of engineering students, faculty and staff from the Ohio State University have traveled to this HIV/AIDS orphanage in rural Honduras for one week annually for the past four years to help design and implement various projects dealing with water quality, agriculture, computer and internet access, and alternative energy.

Personnel Overview
Eric Reynolds - Senior Mechanical Engineering Student
Eric has been working in this area of Honduras for the past three years. He has participated in the design and implementation of water quality and harvesting projects mostly on a small scale although one involved fixing a water chlorination system supporting 200+ families. He also leads many engineering projects in Columbus, and has co-founded Battelle Engineers for Community Service.
Nicole Lammeier - Civil Engineer
Nicole helped organize the initial trip to Montana de Luz, Honduras in 2005 and has been involved in many projects since this time. She has helped secure donations of computers to turn their morque into a computer lab, design and mix a 12 ton concrete satellite pad, filter arsenic from potable water, and organize/mobilize people and projects in general. She is a professional engineer at EMH&T.
