More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

The community of Santo Domingo is located in Chagres National Park in Panama. It is isolated; a 10 km dirt road separates it from the nearest town. After our group assisted in installations of solar panels and lights at the local school and church, the community proposed the electrification of individual houses through solar energy. This would benefit the community’s health, economy, and environment. We will provide technical expertise, training, and 50% funding for materials.

Activities

Our team will thorougly train committee of community members to install solar panel systems, assisting with the first installations and providing a detailed plan for further installations and maintenance.

Potential Long Term Impact

By using solar energy instead of kerosene lamps, families save money, protect their health by improving indoor air quality, continue craftwork and studying after dark, reduce carbon emissions, and use solar-energy expertise as an economic asset.

Project Message

" It was a great feeling not only being able to implement the systems we designed, but also seeing the lights light up and fridge turn on at the end of the day.You can't learn this in a classroom "
