Mission

Prerana Project is based on the belief that women have a right to voluntary, comprehensive, and culturally sensitive services for family planning, reproductive health, and HIV.

Programs

Prerana's clinic in Mysore provides comprehensive female health services including cancer screening, family planning services, condoms, STD treatment, and domestic violence screening/referrals at no cost to patients, often including transport to and from the clinic. Its outreach component networks with local self-help groups to educate women on reproductive health, and provide a forum in which women can learn and ask questions freely. Prerana promotes women's health as a human rights issue.

Personnel Overview

Purnima Madhivanan - Executive Director
Dr. Madhivanan has had a longstanding commitment to women health issues including HIV and reproductive health. It was her experience as both one of the earliest researchers in the field of HIV in India, and as a clinician providing HIV services to women, that motivated her to start a comprehensive women's health clinic in Mysore providing quality care at no cost for all women.

Karl Krupp - Project Manager
Mr Krupp is a public health practitioner who has been working in India for the past ten years. He was the Vice-President of advertising at MetLife before he started working in the field of Public Health. He serves on the board of Directors for Sahaya International, a 501© organization in California, and has worked extensively in the field of HIV prevention and women's health in India.

Varalakshmi Chandrasekaran - Clinical Services Manager
Dr Chandrasekaran is a medical care provider with her medical training and MPH from India. She is interested in issues of domestic violence and cervical cancer awareness in rural communities in India. She has worked in the field of public health for the past four years and has experience developing community education programs.
