More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Accessing education for HIV/AIDS orphans in Kenya is very difficult when there are school fees to pay and siblings to support. However without access to education these orphans have little chance of raising their families out of poverty. Practical and educational income generating projects provide a way for orphans to both pay their fees and learn the entrepreneurial and technical skills needed to support their families.

Activities

By expanding and establishing new rural enterprises at Ototo Secondary Schools, 70 orphans will gain access to a secondary education and hands on training in entrepreneurship & sustainable agriculture.

Latest Update from the Field

Project Update for 'Access to Education for AIDS Orphans in Kenya'

By Jim Stephenson - Programmes Manager, August 04, 2008 06:13 PM

Teach A Man To Fish recently delivered two 5000 litre water tanks and the materials needed to begin a simple drip irrigation system for Ototo Secondary School’s vegetable gardens.

In usual circumstances nothing can be grown during the long dry season from June to October. However, now that Ototo has an irrigation system to keep their vegetable crops watered during the dry season the project can double its output each year. This means that double the number of students can continue attending secondary school using income generated from this project!

On top of this, students will learn how simple drip irrigation systems can be used to increase output back in their household farms, spreading lessons learnt across the neighbouring community.

Photographs will be coming soon so stay posted for further developments....
