Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Majengo is one of the slums in Kenya that HIV prevalence is high, rape cases, abortion and early pregnancy too. Hardly a week passes without the occurrence of one of the above. Mrembo girls project is providing these girls with information, guidance and counseling through use of sports, theartre and video shows. The girls in turn are in a better position to make informed choices concerning their sexuality and lead healthy lives.

Activities

Peer education on HIV,early pregnancy,rape , abortion through a sports based curriculum,video shows and soccer tournaments.

Potential Long Term Impact

Mrembo project will be a resource and rescue center for over 200 girls and young women in Majengo slums. The program will reduce HIV infection, sexual abuse, early pregnancy, and abortion among the girls.

I was working as a commercial sex worker in majengo in order to feed my one year old son.Not any more,thanks to the project for the counselling.I know own a small grocery shop.

Mrembo girls show cased their soccer skills in an on going October grass root soccer league which drew girls’ team from different locations in Nairobi at Kinyago grounds. Striker Mercy Atieno from Mrembo team in white was quite determined to score against their opponent KinyagoUnited despite of the muddy field. Read more from the attatchment.
