Amazon School - Education for Sustainability
More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesThe southern portion of the Amazon, in the State of Mato Grosso, hosts the greatest bio diversity in the region. Notwithstanding, it faces the highest rates of deforestation in Brazil. To protect this natural heritage, two reserves were created: Cristalino State Park and Cristalino Reserve of Natural Heritage. However, cattle ranchers and logging companies do not recognize the reserves and have had a negative influence on the local community, which can potentially undermine conservation efforts. ActivitiesAmazon School offers participants the opportunity to study first-hand the natural history within the context of basic ecological and evolutionary principles. They are exposed to the major environmental problems and invited to discuss the solutions. Funding InformationThis project has been retired and is no longer accepting donations.
