More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
The Bon are a minority Tibetan ethnic group that fled to India when the Chinese invaded Tibet in 1959. In 1968, the Bon established a community in Dolanji, India. Today, the 80-family community has two childrens hostels, school (to the 10th class), a health center and community farm. The students in the Bon community come from Tibet, Mongolia, India, Nepal and Bhutan. The students are either refugees from Tibet or do not have the opportunity for higher education in their home country.
Activities
Creating Hope International is working with the Bon to make primary through post-secondary education possible for the community's children and youths. This project will help 50 children and youth live at a dormitory and attend school for 1 year.

Why this Project is Important
Potential Long Term Impact
Education will improve the opportunities of these young people and the standard of living for the entire community. Some Tibetan students who have benefited from past scholarship programs have returned to Dolanji as leaders and health workers.
Project Message
One Tibetan refugee girl completed primary school, went to college, and studied nursing at a Mission Hospital in India. In 2004, she returned to Dolanji to work in the Bon health clinic.

Latest Update from the Field
Update on Tibetan Education of Children and Youth Project—August 2007
By Toc Dunlap - Executive Director, August 17, 2007 03:29 PM
Creating Hope International is presently helping to support the education of 461 Bon boys and girls in three centers in Dolanji, India. The centers house the children and provide food and clothing with support from donors around the world. The students attend classes at the Tibetan School for the Bon. There are now 22 Bon girls from Nepal who are attending the school along with 439 other boys and girls.
When I visited in December 2006 and April 2007, the children looked healthy and, as always, happy. The principal of the school reported that all were progressing well. What is quite amazing is to see the support that the children give to each other and the love and support that they receive from the monks and nuns who look after them at the monastery and nunnery.
