More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Recent turmoil has intensified conditions: People in rural areas have faced the deaths of many local citizens, scarcity of basic goods, high prices and theft of farm tools, animals and income-generating wares. Peasant organizations exist, yet many lack the know-how to effectively organize to assess their needs and solve the problems. This project will affect more than 28,000 people in five regions.

Activities

Community members receive training to organize and address issues most urgent to their survival, including preventing malnutrition and diseases, increasing income for women, and creating local seed banks, tool banks and grain storage systems.

Resources

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

Community organizations will be self-sustaining in their ability to grow enough crops to feed themselves all year, increase family incomes, manage savings and credit cooperatives, improve health and protect children from preventable diseases.

Project Message

Communities where we have been partnering are organized and will certainly manage better than others who are not.
