News from Our Project

By Susana Imana - , August 21, 2007 06:22 PM

The second publication of the story “The Adventures of Tomas and Pukin” is now ready for publication. Ezio Neyra, the author of numerable literary works and founder of the Niñolee Association, was responsable for writing the new episodes of the story.

With this story we look to contribute to the solution of two problems: i) the low level of reading comprehension among children, as the famous PISA survey states that Peru holds the penultimate position of a sample selection of forty-two countries in the World; and ii) the little value that is given to natural and cultural resources in the last existing valley of Lima, which is being slowly depleted due the dizzying growth rate of Lima.

For these reasons, we need to print these stories, distribute them to the six thousand children that live in Lurin Valley and offer educational assistance to the proffesors.

We are sure that if we raise the level of reading comprehension of these children we will be lowering the incidences of children that cannot read in our country, which in our opinion, is one of the principle causes of underdevelopment and exclusion of the poorest countries in the world, above all those that are rural.

Please take a look at some of our most recent project photos below. Others are posted in our photo gallery.
