Mission

To empower the marginalized women of Andhra Pradesh by supporting their initiative to protect and defend themselves; providing training; and lobbying and campaigning on key issues.

Programs

1100 women from 30 local villages have been organized into community groups by WARD. WARD assists their efforts to access government development programs; to become involved in local politics; and to resolve local problems together.

Personnel Overview

G.Vijaya - Project Coordinator
G. Vijaya is a 27-year-old, literate single Dalit woman from the "untouchable" community. After being thrown out of her home by a physically abusive husband, she joined the local women's community group, the Women's Abhyudaya Rural Development Society (WARD). She organizes WARD's projects, trains volunteers, and has the respect of local government officials and the village community.

Sangeetha Pearl - Communications Officer
Since receiving her commerce degree 10 years ago, Sangeetha has handled development for a variety of women's projects. As Nirnaya's Communications Officer, she manages deals with government departments, board and advisory council members, and acts as a liaison between grantees and the Managing Trustee. She prepares budgets and project proposals for Nirnaya and its grantees.
