Micro-enterprise Development in East Africa
More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesPeriodic droughts and few job opportunities make it difficult for communities, especially women, to survive on subsistence farming. More than half of the people in the three countries are living on $1 a day or less. Alternative income strategies are needed to bridge the gap that will ensure survival in the lean months. Although all three countries are known for diverse wildlife and game parks, tourism benefits only a small percentage of the overall population in selected areas. ActivitiesTrain communities in product pricing and develop products with market appeal; build capacity of youth as intermediaries in information communication technologies; 3) strengthen existing facilities to implement an e-commerce system.
