AIDS Vaccine Research in Uganda
More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesThe Intl AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) is speeding the search for an AIDS vaccine the worlds best hope to end the spread of HIV/AIDS. A preventative vaccine would be given to people uninfected with HIV to prevent them from becoming infected or developing AIDS. In Africa, most new HIV infections occur among women; a vaccine would protect women who are coerced into unsafe sex. Vaccines have eradicated smallpox from the planet and polio from most countries-we must add AIDS to this list. ActivitiesIAVI will work closely with the Joint Clinical Research Center (JCRC) in Kampala, Uganda to prepare an AIDS/HIV vaccine trials program enrolling participants at high risk for HIV infection. Funding InformationTotal Funding Received to Date: $673 Funding InformationThis project is now in implementation and no longer available for funding. Received funds will be used to accomplish concrete objectives as indicated in the project's "Activities" section. Updates will be posted under the "Progress Report" tab as they become available.
