Mission

The ASCR is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families living in the poorest neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Grounded in the principle that illness is not caused by biological factors alone, ASCR aims to break the vicious cycle of poverty and suffering - illness, hospital admission, and subsequent readmission and/or death - by assisting not only the child but his or her entire family as well.

Programs

The fish-hook project is part of an integrated project whose main goal is to promote self-sufficiency amongst Renascer’s assisted families. The Association firmly believes in the idea that “If you give a fish, they will eat for a day; if you teach them how to fish, they will eat for a lifetime”. To this end, ASCR, in collaboration with other institutions, offers family members vocational training courses in order to help them improve their professional skills and long-term self-sufficiency.
