Mission

Since 1992 we produced five videos for children and parents and developed the curricula to train professionals who deal with children in abuse prevention. After working with almost all public pre-school teachers in Mexico City, we have formed a large network of people who are eager to work with us to enlarge the project in order to reach more people. Now, we give attention and offer shorter workshops for parents and all people on the same subjects, with specific goals.

Programs

We belong to a network called Red Por la Infancia y la Adolescencia to promote programs and public initiatives to increase awareness of children’s issues. We also work on topics like “pregnancy in adolescence” and “substance addictions in youth and young adults.” We are preparing a self-help CD on controlling emotions and another video on childbirth offering the basic reflections before, during and after pregnancy. We participate in forums in Mexico and worldwide.

Personnel Overview

María del Carmen Sánchez - Coordinator fo training dept.
María has a Master degree in Sociology. She first had the idea to do a video tape to tell children how to protect themselves against sexual abuse. She wrote thfirst script and we formed the grassroots organization called Yaocihuatl to produce that one, and other videos against abuse, and since then, she has developed the diploma, and training we offer into different governmental institutions

Isabel López Veloz - workshop facilitator
Isabel has just presented her B.A. on Educational Psychology and has worked many years in Yaocihuatl facilitating workshops with children (on one side) and with parents (mostly mothers on the other side) to work learning problems related with abuse in the domestic environment. She is a public school teacher and works specially well in the school environment.

Lucy Roman - Support groups and personal attention facilitator
Lucy is also an Educational psychologist and has a special knack with adolescents. She gives support therapy to groups and to individuals who want to work their memories of abuse. She had the idea with Isabel, to make some voice special exercices to help people discharge their rage and anger, and help them work their fear, that became two CD's offered to the people who go to our training.
