Latest Update from the Field
The SEED School's Library Update 2007
By Robin Lewis - Director of Development, March 14, 2008 05:09 PM
With the support of individuals who give to The SEED School through GlobalGiving, SEED has expanded its library collection to better support curricular requirements as well as to engage students in independent reading. The SEED School has focused on purchasing books to meet the School's younger, struggling readers, so that they have the resources they need to practice reading and develop grade-level literacy skills. Specifically, SEED has increased the number of "high-low" books (high interest, low vocabulary) and technology-based resources that are age appropriate for SEED's middle and high school students, but are also accessible to students who read below grade level and for whom reading for fun is critical to literacy achievement and improvement. With a broader collection of "high-low" books and materials, teachers at SEED are able to encourage those students who need it the most to read for fun and develop the reading skills they need to succeed in high school and college.
