Mission

DEPDC is a non-profit community based, prevention-orientated organization offering education and full-time accommodation for children in prevention of being trafficked into the sex industry and other exploitative child-labour situations. DEPDC is a non-governmental organization with no religious or political connection and is recognised nationally and internationally

Programs

DEPDC has a variety of programs including community based support and shelter, emergency rescue for trafficked women and children, prevention of abuse and trafficking, youth leadership initiatives to develop a network of leaders fighting against trafficking, education for vulnerable children and teenagers outside the formal education system, and vocational and human rights training for undocumented migrants.

Personnel Overview

Dr. Sompop Jantraka - Director and Founder
Sompop was born in 1957 in Southern Thailand. He comes from a poor background but managed to finish his study Political Science at Chiang Mai University. In 1984 - 1987 Sompop worked as a tour conductor. In this time he learned a lot about the problems in Northern Thailand and finally in 1989 he decided to start the Daughters Education Program, as it was called at that time.

Ms. Alinda Watsin - member of DEPDC's managment team
Ms. Alinda is one of DEPDC's first staff members. She works with DEPDC for almost 15 years now. Before she joined the management team in January of this year, she used to be responsible for the production section at DEPDC.

Ms. Manon Sluijter - Volunteer coordinator
Ms. Manon is a VSO (Voluntary Services Overseas) Volunteer from the Netherlands. She started working with DEPDC in October 2003 and works on a two year placement. She is responsible for the English language communications and for taking care of the international volunteers that come to work at DEPDC.
