More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

The project addresses the need for integrated financial education to empower poor women. Women constitute 67% of Mexico’s informal economy. Out of this total, only 8% have access to credit and only 2% have access to financial education to use credit efficiently. The project beneficiaries are indigenous Otomí women in Temoaya, rural Mexico. Men migrate out of Temoaya for long periods of time in seach of work, thereby placing the burden of household and finances on women.

Activities

Produce educational manual for credit promoter. Impart workshops using existing didactic material on finance, commercialization, innovative marketing and leadership to train leaders of each savings/credit group.
