Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Beneficiaries are poor people infected with HIV/AIDS, specifically pregnant women and their newborn babies. Doctors and nurses fear handling deliveries of infected mothers. Poor hospital care results in increased rates of mother-child HIV transmission.

Activities

Anti-retroviral treatment for mothers and babies. Feeding for newborns. Testing for mother and child. Training of doctors, nurses, and helpers. Group counseling.

Potential Long Term Impact

25 hospitals would emerge as centers for treating pregnant women with HIV/AIDS. 40,000 pregnant mothers will get access to counseling and testing annually.
