More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Land in the Bokaro district (the project area) is infertile because the area suffers from droughts and lacks irrigation. The region has been deforested for the coal and steel industries. The villages have benefited little from industrial development and most still lack electricity. Few villagers are able to secure permanent jobs, and are mostly marginal farmers and landless who seek out work in nearby towns for subsistence. Women from lower castes and tribes in Bokaro are the main focus.

Activities

Train 50 women in vermiculture (compost using worms) and vegetable cultivation. Provide micro-credit to 50 women through the women's association to carry out home-based income generation activities.
