More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
418 fishing villages along Thailands Andaman coast were hit by the tsunami. In 186 villages assessed so far, there were almost 300 dead or missing and almost 100 injured. The project will provide direct, immediate relief for over 2,000 small-scale fisherfolk families in these villages. In 30 of the assessed villages all houses, fishing boats and gear, which provided the day to day subsistence for these families, were completely destroyed. The damage in 232 villages is yet to be assessed.
Activities
Through community mobilization and in coordination with others, the Network will provide temporary shelters for those left homeless and support for vocational recovery. There will be an emphasis on helping communities to restore their ecosystems.
