More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
In keeping with our participatory philosophy, Zahana pays for materials out of reach for the villagers (doors, roofing iron, nails, cement, paint etc), while they will contribute locally available materials, bricks and their labor. Zahana will find, hire and train one teacher for all students. In addition to the children’s school curriculum, a strong focus on agriculture, crop improvement and adult literacy the teacher’s assignment in providing continuing community wide education for everybody.
Activities
Building a school for their children emerged as highest priority after a clean water system was successfully built. The community requested Zahana to refocus activities on a school and education by making the bricks and donating the land already.

Why this Project is Important
Potential Long Term Impact
Education is the key for a better future for all their children. Having a teacher work and live in their community can assure that goal for everybody. Complemented by adult education Zahana’s envisioned rural university becomes a reality for all.
Project Message
“With an astonishing literacy rate of over 70% among the parents of Fiarenana who attended primary school themselves, they see the need, importance and value of school education for their children.”
- Dr. Ihanta (Ramihantaniarivo), President and Founder, Zahana

Give More - Get More to buiilt our school
By Markus Faigle, Jeannette Koijane - Volunteers, November 13, 2009 01:08 PM
If you considered donating to Zahana again in this 2009 tax year, now (until Dec 1) might be a very good time.
This project building a school in Fiadanana was invited to join the Give More - Get More Challenge and GlobalGiving will match your contributions incrementally. (The link with more information is on the top part of the project web page.)
Please help us getting these matching funds. Please tell your friends and encourage them to give too.
The challenge details: November 10 to December 1 (but ends Dec 1 at 12:59 EST, not your time zone!)
Matches are staggered based on the amount we raise, or in other words: The more of the total amount of all donation we raise the bigger the match.
We raise up to $2,500: donations will be matched at 30%.
We raise $2,501 - $7,500: donations will be matched at 40%.
We raise more than $7,501: donations will be matched at 50%.
The three projects that raise the most money will receive additional bonuses of $5,000, $3,000, and $1,000. More details at the GlobalGiving Give more – Get more Website
* Donations up to $500 per individual will be matched by GlobalGiving, so the matching funds don't get depleted too fast.
