New sign for Lycee Moderne de l'Amitie The College Modern de l'Amitie (middle school) became the Lycee Moderne de l'Amitie (secondary school) this year as NEEED created a combined middle/secondary school to facilitate the continuation of studies for the girls attending this school. Ouedraogo Zalissa, 12 yrs old I am a first year student in the middle school. My mother is a subsistence farmer in the village of Youba, 35 kms from the middle school. My father died two years ago. I have six brothers and sisters. I love school and hope to be a government official some day. While in school, I live with my brother, a student in secondary school in Ouahigouya, five kms from the middle school. I come to school on foot. I am very happy to be here. My mother says this is the best school in the region.	Ouattara Raissa, 14 years old I am 14 years old and I am in my second year of middle school. My parents are subsistence farmers. I have four brothers and sisters. I come from the village of Kayegue which is 40 kilometers from Ouahigouya where I live with a friend of my father's during the school year. I walk to and from school each day. We do not eat breakfast in the morning. With the canteen, I can eat at noon which I appreciate very much. I am happy to be at the Lycée Moderne de l' Amitie. I am learning a lot.
Diallo Ramata, 15 yrs old I am 15 years old and in my 3rd year in middle school. During the school year, I live with my aunt in a village six kms from school. In the mornings I drink millet porridge before going to school. The school environment is very good and learning is taken very seriously. My parents are subsistence farmers in the village of Touya which is 31 kilometers from school. I have four sisters and five brothers. Only three of them go to school and I hope that they will be able to go to this school.	Ouedraogo Kadiatou, 18 yrs old I am starting secondary school. My parents are subsistence farmers in Douma, 45 kms from Ouahigouya. I graduated from middle school here last year. The teachers here are serious and the school work is rewarding. I hope to earn my secondary diploma here at the Lycée Moderne de l'Amitie. I want to become a mathematics professor. While in school, I live in Ouahigouya with my brother who is a mechanic. I go six kms each day to school. We have no breakfast so I appreciate the noon meal here.
New classroom building A new classroom building was completed in 2009 to accomodate increasing enrollment. The Lycée can now accomodate 600 students while maintaining its standard of 50 students maximum per classroom.	School well The school well provides water for the students and teachers, and for the canteen where students receive a daily lunch.
