More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Cedar Village is committed to proving that age is just a number not a handicap. This mission demonstrates not only the value of enriching the lives of our elders but also their remarkable abilities and wisdom. “We truly believe that age is just a number,” says Carol Silver Elliott, CEO/President of Cedar Village, “and this mission is a way to prove it. Our seniors can learn, experience and share in ways that are powerful and far reaching."

Activities

Seniors, accompanied by their one-to-one staff buddies will tour sites from Masada to the Golan, from Tel Aviv to a kibbutz. The highlight, of course, will be the Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony in Jerusalem.

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

The ripple effect of this mission is enormous. The story of this mission, of these elders both visiting Israel and re-consecrating themselves to their faith, will be shared both locally and nationally. It will inspire all who face challenges.

Project Message

“Bat Mitzvah was not an option for girls when I was young. And even if it had been, those years of my life were spent in a concentration camp. A Bat Mitzvah at 96, in Israel, is a dream fulfilled."
- Edith Carter, Mission participant

Latest Update from the Field

B'nai Mitzvah Mission

By Carol Silver Elliott - project leader, September 30, 2009 02:38 PM

The B'nai Mitzvah Mission is almost here and we are counting downt the days! We have nine residents and four staff who will take part in the ceremony to be held at Robinson's Arch in Jerusalem on October 15, 2009.

Everyone has been working hard to learn their Torah portions and write individual commentaries. And, a unique service has been created that will include special readings as well as biographies and photos of everyone on the mission.

The ten day mission will be filled with incredible experiences and will take us from one end of Israel to the other. You'll be able to follow us by blog or even watch the cermony live via ustream video. Watch for details.
