More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
This community initiated project, led by a group of 15 local women, defines the community's limited access to water as its most urgent problem. Currently, women and children walk long distances to get water, risking violence at these remote water collection points. Children tasked with collecting water are often unable to attend school, and women who are late in bringing water home are often abused by their husbands. In addition, water borne disease in the community is rampant.
Activities
A central water access point will be installed, and women and men will receive trainings on sanitation, women's rights, and domestic violence; water will be sold to cover ongoing costs. In its first year, the project will benefit over 100 families.

Why this Project is Important
Potential Long Term Impact
After one year, 60% of community women will know their rights, 70% of community members will no longer suffer from water borne diseases, and 80% of women will utilize clean water and know of risks associated with using dirty water.
Project Message
If women have access to clean water, and men and women are trained about women’s rights, problems facing women, including violence against women will be reduced.
