Mission

Water.org envisions the day when everyone in the world can take a safe drink of water. Our mission: inspire people to act; develop high quality, sustainable water projects; and enable donors to invest wisely. We exist to create a global awareness of the water supply crisis and to help people respond. We carefully invest donors' funds in only the highest quality projects through locally based water development organizations.

Programs

Water.org's primary activity is facilitating drinking water supply and sanitation projects in communities in developing countries. We use extensive evaluation programs to select and monitor both our partner organizations and water projects. We mentor our partners and help them keep abreast of current issues related to international water supply and sanitation. We also consult to other organizations by evaluating and selecting partner organizations.

Personnel Overview

Marla Smith-Nilson - Director of International Programs
Smith-Nilson’s childhood visits to Mexico and the two years she worked, and traveled in Africa and Asia spurred her to help the poor get safe water. While she was overwhelmed by their struggle for survival, she was inspired by the way they are able to face their problems with dignity and hope. Co-founding WaterPartners was her response to these problems.

Gary White - Executive Director
White has dedicated his life to helping people obtain safe and sustainable water supplies. More than a decade ago in the slums of Guatemala City, he was shocked by the sources of drinking water. These caused sickness and death, especially for children whose immune systems are weak. Knowing that 80 percent of sickness in the world is water-related motivated him to co-found WaterPartners.
