Interest Free Loans to 150 Earthquake affected women

By Roohullah - Mr., December 19, 2007 10:15 PM

Project Summary:

PCP project was started in earth quake of Mansehra district. It covered four villages of two union councils namely Battal and Archian. The objective was to cover 150 direct and 600 indirect beneficiaries during one year of the programme duration. (July 06-June 07)

Micro enterprise activities under the project were started in district Mansehra covering seven villages of two union-council Battal and Archian. Villages covered are Khurmang and Seloona Nulla, Shaher Bai, Nemshahera, Hair Bala and Jalil Abad. So far Rs. 15, 31,230 has been distributed to 150 women, whereas Rs. 1, 72,302 has so been recovered for further use of similar activities.

The main micro enterprises’ activities for which loan/grant has been provided to 150 women are poultry (Chicks), dairy activities like buffalo and cows, tailoring (sewing machines) and grocery shops.

In order to discourage dependency on grant in earth quake areas women were encouraged to take interest-free loans for establishing their businesses; and a recovery procedure is thus adopted. The amount so recovered forms part of the revolving fund to be used on furthering micro enterprise activities in the same area.
