More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Elder women face vast economic inequities earning 30% less in Social Security than men limiting their access to resources, in particular health care. Health care inequities often lead to chronic illness. Especially hard hit are women of color, immigrant women, low-income women and other underserved populations in California.

Activities

The Elderly Women's Initiative organizes local planning committees that highlight priority issues and leadership opportunities for elder women and support outreach efforts to put elder women in touch with policy makers and decision makers.

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

To increase elder women advocates and build a movement for a California where we can all age in our own homes with well-being, dignity and economic security.

Project Message

This is a critical opportunity to create a new definition of what aging means today. It provides a venue for older women to create a vision of aging with dignity, well-being and economic security.
- Roma Guy, Health Policy Chair, California Women’s Agenda
