Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Poor communities are characterized by lack of access to proper medical care and intervention services for their disabled children, particularly those with mental handicaps. This is compounded by ignorance about mental handicaps. Consequently, needs of children with mental handicaps have not been sufficiently addressed. Beneficiaries are persons with disabilities, specifically those with mental handicaps, and women, particularly mothers of children with mental handicaps.

Activities

To organize awareness programs, training programs for mothers of children with disabilities, establish a rehabilitation clinic, place trained community workers as home advisors, and to form Self-Help Groups of women and mothers of the disabled.

Potential Long Term Impact

This project will result in communities that are better able to address the needs of those with mental and physical handicaps.

Project Message

The devotion shown by poor mothers of children with mental handicap humbles me. Empowering them by appropriate training will under gird their innate skills with knowledge.
