More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Over 3 years, the school will train 500 low-income girls from poor farming families and indigenous communities around the UNESCO-recognized Reserve. The school uses small-scale, on-campus agro-forestry enterprises as a platform for girls to develop the technical, financial and entrepreneurial skills required for future economic success. In 5 years, these enterprises will generate enough income to cover all operating costs, thereby ensuring the school's long-term financial sustainability.

Activities

Set up: i) school for high school boarding students and day students in technical training programs; ii) small agro-forestry enterprises which give girls practical/entrepreneurial experience and earn income for school

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

Four months after graduation, 50 high school girls/year will have good jobs in agro-forestry, have started their own rural enterprises and/or be at university. School's financial self-sufficiency in 5 years means that benefits continue in perpetuity.

Project Message

"I came to the school because it is a challenge for young women, and I am ready for it. That´s why I'm here-- to overcome great challenges."
- Jessica Brítez, Senior - San Francisco Agricultural School
