Empower rural women entrepreneurs to become independently

By Chetna Sinha - Founder and Chair of the Mann Deshi , August 17, 2009 03:04 PM

Dear Donators

Thank you for your continued support of the Business School. The past few years have shown tremendous growth as we have opened branches in three locations – Mhaswad, Vaduj, and Dahiwadi. We have also begun to launch our Mobile Business School, which will provide a mobile classroom to reach women in rural villages who are unable to attend courses due to social and economic barriers.

Enrollment in our financial literacy course increased from 5,304 students in December 2008 to 5,701 students in March 2009. Other popular courses include computer literacy, English speaking, and basic tailoring. A veterinary camp to vaccinate and immunize the farm animals of our clients was very successful as over 850 students participated.

Our future plans include expansion of our course offering and further financial inclusion of women through the expansion of their micro-enterprises. This includes exposure visits for idea generation, a marketing center to connect suppliers and consumers, and the launch of SmartCard technology to streamline processes and increase efficiencies between the Bank and the Business School. The Business School plans to open two more branches in the near future in Satara and Solapur where demand has been expressed by the Bank’s clients.

We greatly appreciate all the support you have given us so far and hope that you will be able to help us in for our future projects.

Affectionately,
Chetna

Financial Education

By Chetna Sinha - Founder and Chair of The Mann Deshi Foundation , May 23, 2009 08:10 AM

Dear Mann Deshi Foundation Supporters:

Thank you for your continued support and interest in the Mann Deshi Foundation; this project to help rural women save for their children’s education affects the financial security of our clients today and in the future.
Enrollment in the financial literacy course has more than doubled since the programs inception. As a result, six-hundred forty-four women have enrolled in the education saving scheme for their children. For each woman that enrolled in the saving scheme, the Mann Deshi Foundation provided a schoolbag for her child. While the saving plan scheme may seem like a small project, the return on this investment is limitless; children who would otherwise never complete their education are being integrated in the financial and social infrastructure of India.

We welcome your feedback in our comments section. Please let us know what you think!

Thank you,

The Mann Deshi Foundation

Financial Education

By Chetna Sinha - Founder & Chair Mannvikas Samajik Sanstha, December 11, 2008 04:07 PM

Dear Education Supporters:

Many poor rural women in the western state of Maharashtra cannot afford to send their children to school. Children either receive no education or are eventually forced to drop out due to economic reasons. Since education is a vital part of future financial self-sufficiency and sustainable development, Mann Vikas has been seeking out creative ways to fund children’s education.

With your generous contribution, Mann Vikas provides twelve financial literacy courses to its clients each month. These courses teach women the importance of savings, provide them with financial skills, and empower them to save money for their children’s education. Thank you for making this possible.
