More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
In Cameroon's rural areas, where less than half of people have access to safe water, there is an urgent need for safe water. Children routinely develop sores from cuts that become infected by washing with dirty water. Many mothers have lost children to water-related disease, and families constantly battle stomach illnesses. This project will serve families in rural communities throughout Cameroon. Already 4,000 people have received filters from Thirst Relief/LWDG and are reporting better health.
Activities
Trained technicians will market filters to interested communities. Families will pay a small fee to receive their filters, along with training on proper use. Technicians will also engage local youth to oversee the filters' ongoing maintenance.
Funding Information
This project has been retired and is no longer accepting donations.

Why this Project is Important
Potential Long Term Impact
Safe water has the power to restore hope to communities trapped in a cycle of poverty and disease. Each biosand filter can provide a lifetime of safe water to a family. Healthy children can attend school; parents can work and care for their homes.
Project Message
"...I have been suffering from Diarrhoea and when I went to the hospital, I was told that it was due to bad water and now I own a filter. I believe I will no longer suffer with diarrhoea."
- Joseph, from Nkuv Village, Past project participant
