Mission

SCAN provides a forum for free speech and free expression of diverse ideas providing an open forum for discussion as it supports communities and builds awareness about community needs for the people of Seattle and King County, Washington. SCAN also promotes media literacy, media justice, and community dialogue as an alternative to corporate media. SCAN provides equipment, trainings, and resources to help individuals and organizations create and distribute their programming.

Programs

As the public access TV station for this region, the station is known for training individuals and organizations in video and television production, for airing cultural, political, religious, youth, ethnic, and social programming, and for providing public access TV for underrepresented community groups. SCAN also has a Youth Media Program which offers technical training, media literacy, video media arts and production training to promote critical thinking for youth ages 9-18.

Taaj Middleton - Youth Program Manager
Taaj has been with SCAN for 2 years. She worked at ABC as the supervising comedies acquisitioner in their On Air Promotions department. She has also volunteered with a youth arts program in West Seattle, helping at risk youth produce short videos about local teens doing extraordinary things in their communities. She was also a director for the YMCA in their before and after school program.
