More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
Women and children will benefit most as they are tasked with gathering firewood and cooking. Children are most susceptible to health issues due to prolonged exposure to indoor air pollution – which doubles their risk of developing respiratory disease – and pregnant women run the risk of complications during labor. The environmental impacts of traditional cooking methods exacerbate the issue of deforestation which is estimated to have claimed 78% of natural forest between 1990 and 2000 by WRI.
Activities
CHF International has partnered with E+Co to develop a contextually appropriate form of a fuel-efficient stove through market research of existing production capacity, identification of local partners and collaboration on a design for production.

Why this Project is Important
Potential Long Term Impact
The stoves require as much as 75% less fuel than current stoves. They reduce exposure to indoor air pollution and improve the health of the children of Rwanda. Also, they will assist in reducing the rate of deforestation and improve forest habitat.
Project Message
The CHF/Disney Green Stoves Project improves the health of both the population and the environment of Rwanda, educates families and small business owners on the benefits of fuel efficiency in cooking.
