More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Land is a precious commodity throughout the world. Disenfranchised rural families in Central America lack access to the kind of credit needed to buy their own land. Trapped in a cycle of basic survival, rural families pay exorbitant rents for poor quality land or work for desperately low wages as migrant laborers. At least four million Guatemalans live below the poverty line, earning less than US $1-2 per day. Nine out of ten Guatemalan farmers do not own enough land to feed their families.

Activities

Loan payments fund the purchase of land, develops local leadership, facilitates building of housing and infrastructure, providing business loans and training, and ensures education, and health care
