More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
The Bon are a minority Tibetan ethnic group that fled to India when the Chinese invaded Tibet in 1959. They established a community in Dolanji, India on donated land. Today, 80 Bon families, 200-300 Indian families, and several hundred orphaned children live in Dolanji, India and rely on the clinic at the Yung Drung Bon Monastic Center for free health care. Survival is difficult in this remote area and these poor families have limited access to other health care facilities.
Activities
Essential oils have proven to be an effective complement to traditional Tibetan and western medical practices to successfully treat disease. Essential oils and bottles are needed to re-stock supplies. Seed funding is needed for an herb garden.

Why this Project is Important
Potential Long Term Impact
The oils will be used to treat diseases of people in Dolanji. Clinic staff hopes to begin growing herbs and explore making these oils on site and selling them for income to support the clinic and this Tibetan community in exile.
Project Message
This project makes sure that the clinic will get the maximum medicinal use out of these donated oils, meeting the health needs of hundreds of children, men, and women.

A Special Giving Opportunity.....
By Sondra Johnson - The Tibetan Bon Thank You, November 10, 2009 03:36 PM
We wanted to share with you a very special opportunity to give more than 100% from November 10 through December 1st. Please share this with those you know who care. During this time, we are privileged to receive additional matching funds from your donation through Global Giving of at least 30%. The need is still great. Afghanistan struggles to become a country of strength and stability.
The Bon are a minority Tibetan ethnic group that fled to India when the Chinese invaded Tibet in 1959. In 1968, the Bon established a community in Dolanji, India on donated land. The community has an orphanage, children’s hostel, school (to the 10th class), health center, and community farm. Essential oils, which are valuable for their healing properties, have been used for over 6 years at the health center to treat various ailments. Some of the essential oils are now able to be procured in India. However, most high quality essential oils still come from the west. Earlier this year, a volunteer, using funds raised through this project, delivered the following essential oils requested by the project to the project: thyme, cinnamon leaf, cedar leaf, petitgrain, niaouli, onion, yarrow, aniseed, cumin, ajowan, eucalyptus, manuka, benzoin and grapeseed.
