More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
As relief gives way to the long and difficult process of reconstruction, project is focusing on specific actions for about 400 people to rebuild their life in Chennai and in five tsunami affected villages: two at Challanam/Karunagapally and Edavanakad/Pallithodu near Kochi, Kerala and three at Ambedkar Nagar, Kuppankulam and Pethankuppam near Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu. God-parenthood has a strong impact by helping poor children go back to school and receive medical care on a case by case basis.
Activities

Why this Project is Important
Potential Long Term Impact
Positive long-term impact is the result of prompt action/funding: when a safe environment is re-created with basic needs--proper housing, clean water, health-- 400 people will live normally again; children will go to school, key for the future.
Project Message
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight. Build anyway; the good you do today, people may forget tomorrow: do good anyway.

Latest Update from the Field
Helping the hungry and homeless
By Dr. Claudine Dussert - President, MMP-Medjugorje Charity, March 30, 2009 10:33 AM
Providing technical assistance for livelihoods recovery in these villages in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, continuing home reconstruction in disaster affected areas, and educating young girls for a better future are the focus of this project since end 2006. Weak funding result in 2007 and 2008 is quite a challenge to do better in 2009.
I ask you to open your heart to those in crisis under this project. Your generous gift to GlobalGiving for this project will help the hungry and homeless in this region. It will also help the working poor who struggle every day, yet can't make ends meet four years after the tsunami. Your gift will give help and hope to nourish the bodies and the souls of village people in their hour of deepest needs. Budget need for 2009 is US$25,000. It includes medical assistance for a few critical cases. Thank you for your support in these difficult times whatever the amount you can afford.
