Project Needs and Beneficiaries
India contributes 1/5th of the global burden of cervical cancer cases. The women most at risk for cervical cancers are married, over 35 years old, in low socioeconomic strata, with limited education, and from rural areas of South India. Project Prerana will conduct culturally sensitive education and awareness programs on cervical cancer screening and the HPV vaccine (for their children), and will provide women with free reproductive health services in a safe and comfortable environment.
Activities
Project Prerana will conduct 25 education and awareness programs in the rural villages of Mysore, reaching 1250 women with information on cervical cancer and offering women a free cervical cancer screening.

Potential Long Term Impact
Project Prerana will educate about 1250 low income village women in Mysore on cervical cancer and early detection. The project will encourage women to get screened for cancer at no cost, as cervical cancer is a critical problem in rural India.
