Orissa is one of the poorest states in India. More than 80% of the total population of 38 million people live in rural villages and below the poverty line. Gram Vikas works primarily with the poorest, enabling them to break the cycle of poverty and lead a dignified life. Currently working with 20,000 families Gram Vikas proposes to reach 100,000 families by 2015. With $44,000 we can reach 100 families at $440 per family.

Activities

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

The project aims to reduce the vulnerability of poor communities and improve their overall quality of life. Women's drudgery in household maintenance is reduced. Illnesses are reduced and an upward spiral of development is triggered in the villages.

Project Message

I believe even the poorest people can and will pay for services that they consider are essential.
