More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
Land is a precious commodity throughout the world. Disenfranchised rural families lack access to the kind of credit needed to buy their own land. Trapped in a cycle of basic survival, rural families pay exorbitant rents for poor quality land or work for desperately low wages as migrant laborers. As a result, four million Guatemalans live below the poverty line, earning less than the equivalent of US $1-2 per day. Only 15% of children in the rural areas complete elementary education.
Activities
LEAP trainers work with Agros families as they realize their community plans for attaining basic food security, adequate housing, adequate income and education for their children.

Why this Project is Important
Potential Long Term Impact
Agros’ LEAP program provides the leadership and educational training families need as they begin to cultivate the land they now own by title.
Project Message
We see a radical change in these families’ lives once they move onto their land. Enabling farmers to earn land enables them to rediscover their dignity.
