More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
We dream of playing soccer at night! Here along Gaza’s border with Egypt, we cleared the rubble, made a soccer field, and organized a soccer tournament that starts on Sept. 1st and runs through Ramadan. With lights, we could play after the fast is broken. Light will benefit the entire Ybnah refugee camp by creating a safe area where children can play, groups can interact, and families can come out to enjoy the cool night air.
Activities
Cleared 12 acres of land on the border with Egypt, removed the rubble adjacent to a refugee camp with 500 households, created a soccer program for 48 youth, and scheduled tournament for Ramadan.

Why this Project is Important
Potential Long Term Impact
When communities organize good things for the benefit of their children, families begin to recover from trauma, and values of good citizenship, democracy, participation and community action take hold.
Project Message
4 yrs ago, a densely populated neighborhood was turned to mounds of rubble by the Israeli Army. Now we cleared the rubble to make what will someday be known as the best soccer field in all the world!
- Adnan Abu Al Sa’ud, member of the committee to make the soccer field

Thanks and Request for Help!
By Donna Baranski-Walker - Executive Director, August 12, 2009 10:52 AM
Thank you so much for helping Beam of Light: Ramadan Soccer Tournament in Rafah win first place in the GlobalGiving “Ready, Set, Give” Challenge! The news from our partners in Gaza is good; they’ve already installed the first part of their community center on the Unity Club soccer field, and they’re working on getting up lights. It’s incredibly encouraging to be a part of this change, and we’re grateful that so many of you, our donors and helping hands, can be a part of it too.
We need your help once more because the hard work isn’t over! Our next big project is part of GlobalGiving UK’s “Alive and Learning” challenge, and it ends THIS FRIDAY. We want to build a birthing center in Al Aqaba village in the West Bank – the first birthing center in Area C, which suffers from a lack of medical access. In this dark time, our birthing center can bring new hope to a village under demolition orders and a whole area struggling from occupation. Help us by going to our website, www.rebuildingalliance.org, and clicking the link to donate; just five pounds (around $8) is enough to make a difference.
Sincere thanks and best wishes,
