Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Due to ongoing civil unrest and conflict, Afghanistan's schools and libraries are in a state of despair, on top of an adult literacy rate of only 36%. With equal access to books among boys and girls, RI's libraries help close the gender gap as well as the literacy gap - necessary for the economic growth and recovery of the region.

Activities

RI refurbishes and meets the needs of 275 schools, while providing library furniture & delivering over 82,500 books. RI trains teachers in library management, incorporation of books into curriculum, & student evaluation methods.
