Rural Family Nutrition Initiative in Zimbabwe
Never too early to learn
Drip kits and agricultural training help families to provide their children with nutritious vegetables, while demonstrating to children the importance of proper farming techniques.
Training by ASAP Field Officer
Drip kits, when combined with permaculture techniques, help farmers to achieve greater yields with half as much work and half as much water. The key to success is training.
ASAP staff train community leaders
ASAP field staff work closely with the communities in the field. Making sure that knowledge and techniques are understood and applied. This is the key to success and sustainability.

Installation
Here, a family shows their pride and excitement as they lay down their new drip kit.
At ASAP we are not afraid to get our hands dirty!
ASAP agriculturalist Alfred Jagada works closely with rural women, teaching them how to improve their gardens, so that the drip kits will not become a one-time gift, but a step in the process of becoming better, more productive farmers.
Security
Using drip irrigation improves household security, protecting the family from the otherwise devastating effects of a dry season.
Results
ASAP Project Manager, Joseph Miti, and all staff members, are excited to see families who use drip kits yield larger harvests and become more self-reliant.
Supporting the at-risk
Janet Gotekote, a widow and mother of 3, uses her garden to feed her family and generate income with little outside help from her neighbors.
Family Affair
The family and community benefit from improved harvests and the self-reliance the vegetables and surplus income bring.
The children are the future
There is no life without water. This is the mantra in rural Africa. Through drip irrigation children receive the enhanced nutrition to grow, learn and develop.
