Opus 118 provides a safe, creative environment where youth can develop their artistic and personal skills.

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

In serious music study, a student learns discipline, patience, persistence, and what it feels like to succeed. Music also provides an alternative to high-risk behaviors. Our students go on to study at prestigious music schools and universities.

Project Message

Opus teaches students dedication and patience...how to achieve goals...how to concentrate and work hard....It gives them success. This is most important for kids coming from lower-income neighborhoods
- Jairus Steed, Opus 118 alumnus

Latest Update from the Field

We're here to stay

By ksanders - External Relations, July 15, 2009 11:01 AM

Opus 118 Harlem School of Music made it in the American Open Competition! That means that we're here to stay on Global Giving. Thank you to all of our supporters. We couldn't have made this happen without you. Our push really came as the competition winded down. We started the last day with less than 10 supporters and closed with over 70. We have you, our organizations newest friends to thank!

This has been a standout year for Opus 118. In January our students performed in Washington, DC at the Children's Inaugural Ball as part of President Obama's celebration. It was truly a historic event that our students will never forget. We are looking forward to even more successes in the future. Thanks again for your dedicated support.
